Rainbow Six Siege Community Checkpoint: Ranked 3.0 Updates, Dokkaebi Adjustments, Calypso Casino, and more!

Rainbow Six Siege Operation System Override is well underway. As the season brought several updates to gameplay, including Ranked 3.0, a Dokkaebi rework, the new Calypso Casino map, and more, the Siege team hosted a Community Checkpoint livestream on the official Rainbow 6 Twitch channel to address some of those changes, discuss the intention behind them, and outline how further adjustments are being made based on player feedback.

Ranked 3.0 Update

Operation System Override brought a major overhaul to the competitive heart of Siege with Ranked 3.0, which was designed with community feedback in mind. It brought more transparency to rankings with no hidden MMR, and a refined matchmaking system to determine your rank and ensure matches were composed of squads of similar ranks. Additionally, players now play five placement matches to earn their starting rank.

During the Community Checkpoint livestream, the developers clarified some of the rationale behind some of the Ranked 3.0 elements, namely:

Placements: designed to reveal the skill level players already had under the previous Ranked system, complete with visible MMR. Based on player feedback, placements will be adjusted further to make them feel more meaningful and better aligned with player expectations. This means placement matches will carry more weight in determining rank in future seasons.

  • Champion Rank: designed to be the highest achievement in Siege that reflects sustained high-level performance, and cannot be attained simply through placements. Placements are a starting point based on a relatively small snapshot of gameplay, and reaching Champion reflects a player’s ability to adapt and perform consistently over time.

  • KDA not counting towards rank: Hard support, gathering intel, flank watch, and playing different Operators are just as impactful on gameplay as eliminations, but don’t have stats like KDA to reflect those skills. By not factoring KDA in rank, it helps prevent gameplay from skewing towards elimination-only focus.

  • Soft reset impact: One of Ranked 3.0’s goals was to re-establish meaning and separation between the top ranks of Siege like Champion and Diamond, but that resulted in many players bunched into high ranks like Emerald. The team is making adjustments to the system, including placements, to ensure a cleaner distribution of players across ranks.

  • Further Ranked 3.0 adjustments: Based on live data and player feedback, the team has made adjustments to the minimum RP gains and RP fairness between teammates.

The team also spoke more about Legend Division, an upcoming, highly competitive layer to Ranked. When Legend Division launches, it will feature:

  • Solo-queue focus

  • A high level of competitive integrity

  • A clear and meaningful relationship with ranks like Champion

As Legend Division gets closer to launching, the team is working hard to ensure it has a positive impact on ranks, and they are exploring different ways to achieve that.

Dokkaebi Rebalance

Ranked wasn’t the only thing to receive an overhaul in Operation System Override; Dokkaebi received a full rework, including a redesigned unique ability called the Jegeo Payload. This ability allows Dokkaebi to call one Defender who must dismiss the call before their phone explodes, dealing direct damage and starting a small fire.

The team received player feedback that this new iteration of Dokkaebi was too overpowered. As a result, there are several planned incremental adjustments to help gameplay feel more balanced when Dokkaebi is on the field:

  • 2.1 Patch: The Jegeo Payload will have a global cooldown to prevent spamming Defenders until the Mid-Season patch.

  • Mid-Season Patch: The Jegeo Payload will switch from a global cooldown to an operator specific cooldown.

  • Year 11, Season 3: Dokkaebi’s payload will become a signal that must be maintained, and once the payload is delivered, the phone will detonate. Mute and Tubarão will be able to sever the payload connection, preventing distraction and detonation.

The Siege developers also believe players will discover more counters to Dokkaebi, noting they have already seen players take advantage of defensive healing with Doc and Thunderbird.

Calypso Casino Map

Calypso Casino is a new map added at the beginning of the season, but a familiar one for longtime Rainbow Six players, as it was adapted from Rainbow Six Vegas for a competitive Siege experience. It features great verticality, unique drone vents, an eye-catching aquarium hallway, and much more – all set in a rooftop casino. The map was in the showcased pool at the start of Operation System Override, enabling as many players as possible to check it out. However, this didn’t allow for the map variety that players want to see. Moving forward, the Siege team will implement new ways to encourage players to dive into new maps without detracting from the variety Siege has to offer. After considering all of the above, it was decided that patch 2.1 would allow for Calypso Casino to be banned, at the same time as Dokkaebi became bannable.

1v1 Playlist Returns

The popular 1v1 game will return in Operation System Override’s mid-season update on July 16. Initially introduced during Operation Silent Hunt, the playlist lets players face off solo. This time, the development team has made some adjustments based on player feedback, including:

  • A 5-map pool (increased from 3)

  • Improved matchmaking that now leverages the Ranked skill table

  • Faster pacing, made possible by auto-revealed bomb sites and reduced prep time

  • A new attrition system that replaces bans and reduces repetitive Operator picks

  • Adjustments aimed at reducing downtime and improving round flow

At this time, Ranked 1v1 is not yet an option. However, as a highly requested feature from players, it is something the developer team will explore once the core experience is refined. Constructive feedback on this iteration of the 1v1 playlist will help determine how and when Ranked 1v1 comes to Siege, so players should be sure to respond to seasonal surveys and join the Rainbow Six Siege Discord.
