The Division 2 Launches Year 5 with New Descent Gameplay Mode

It's a brand new year for The Division 2 as Year 5 kicks off today, headlined by a new rogue-lite game mode called Descent, which is available now for all Division 2 players. Year 5's first season, Broken Wings, also begins today, bringing a new twist on Manhunts as well as new weapons, gear, vanity items (including an unlockable Splinter Cell outfit), and exotics to hunt down. Broken Wings also brings new Leagues, the return of Global Events, and a whole lot more for Warlords of New York owners and Ubisoft+ subscribers. The Division 2 recently hit the 20-million-player milestone, and a bevy of new challenges await any Agents ready to dive into the action.

Descent Mode

Leaving all your gear and SHD tech behind may seem like a daunting challenge for seasoned Division 2 Agents, but that's just what you'll do in the new rogue-lite mode, Descent. Starting anew on each run, you'll work your way through a high-tech bunker and fight against AI enemies and bosses in a special training simulation. Along the way, you'll build up your loadout with new weapons, skills, and talents as you fight your way deeper and deeper toward the ultimate foe. Descent is available now for all Division 2 players to test their mettle in either solo or co-op play, and the soundtrack will be released tomorrow, June 9.

Season 1: Broken Wings

Broken Wings takes a fresh look at Manhunts, sending you into the city to save targets rather than slay them. Mari Singh is the first prime target you'll rescue; she is the former director of the DC Aquarium, and had been working to create a fish farm at the Castle settlement. As you fight to bring her and four other hostages back to the settlement, you'll help to rebuild and fortify The Castle, and will have the chance to earn new weapons and gear including St. Elmo's Engine (exotic assault rifle), Shocker Punch (exotic holster), Cabaret (named MP5 ST), and Big Show (named MG5 LMG), as well as items from the Electrique gear brand set and Cavalier gear set. As in previous years, the seasonal content of Broken Wings is only available to Warlords of New York expansion owners and Ubisoft+ subscribers.

Broken Wings will also give players the chance to unlock a Splinter Cell outfit through the season pass, as well as a bevy of weapon skins, gear dyes, arm patches, and emotes. Further vanity items inspired by SHD apparel and the Black Tusk will be available during the Escalation apparel event, which starts on June 20.

The Division 2: Warlords of New York is available now on PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and is part of a Ubisoft+ subscription.
