Ubisoft+ Spotlight – Assassin’s Creed

(Editorial note: This is a series of quick weekly highlights written by Ubisoft News team writers that feature games available with a Ubisoft+ subscription. We hope you’ll enjoy reminiscing with us, or perhaps discover something new.)

Brittany Spurlin, Writer/Editor: It’s time to take a Leap of Faith into the start of a franchise with Assassin’s Creed. Don the robes and Hidden Blade of Altaïr (well, technically you’ll relive his memories through his present-day descendant, Desmond Miles) as you explore an open world set in the Middle East during the Third Crusade. Altaïr is a member of the Assassin Brotherhood, tasked with eliminating members of the Templar Order. Along the way, he’ll uncover secrets about mysterious artifacts, and slowly get pulled into a conspiracy he never could have imagined.

The story in Assassin’s Creed sets the stage for a franchise that’s still going strong (Assassin’s Creed Mirage, a return to the series’ roots, is set to release next week), introducing us to the centuries-long conflict between the Assassins and Templars; the art of blending in and working from the shadows; and parkouring throughout dense cityscapes. While Assassin’s Creed’s free-running has certainly evolved since 2007, the feeling of the Holy Land being your personal playground is as fresh today as it was then. Being able to nimbly leap across rooftops, swiftly scale walls, and gracefully dive into hay piles set the tone for movement in Assassin’s Creed, and has remained essential to every installment since 2007.

You can play Assassin’s Creed today with a Ubisoft+ subscription.
