This Week at Ubisoft: Assassin’s Creed Mirage is Out Now, The Division 2 Launches Puppeteer Season

This week at Ubisoft, Assassin's Creed Mirage launched, with a celebratory deep dive into the history of the Assassin Brotherhood and interviews focusing on the game's authenticity and accessibility; The Division 2 kicked off Puppeteers, the second season of Year 5; and two Latine developers talk about how they used their personal experiences to create Yara. Check it all out and more in this week's recap of Ubisoft news.

Assassin's Creed Mirage - The Evolution of the Brotherhood

Assassin's Creed Mirage is out now, introducing players to a new chapter of Basim's story as he grows from common street thief to Master Assassin. In the game, he works with his mentors Roshan and Fuladh to unmask and eliminate members of the Order of the Ancients in Baghdad, as well as to establish Hidden Ones Bureaus throughout the city. To celebrate, Ubisoft News wrote a comprehensive history of the Assassin Brotherhood, taking a look at how the organization has evolved through the centuries.

The Division 2 - Puppeteers Season Kicks Off Today

The Division 2 kicked off its new season, Puppeteers, on October 3, bringing Incursions, a new free Season Pass track, two new apparel events, and more to the third-person shooter. The first Incursion, Paradise Lost, will take players to the Meret Estate, which is on fire and overrun with Cleaners. Squads of four will need to carefully coordinate in order to clear and reclaim the estate. Players will need to have the Warlords of New York expansion to access Puppeteers.

Assassin's Creed Mirage - Building An Authentic Baghdad

Assassin's Creed Mirage is set in ninth-century Baghdad during the Abbasid Caliphate, a time when the city was a vibrant hub for art, science, culture, poetry, and architecture, with a thriving economy. It was important to the team at Ubisoft Bordeaux to make Mirage's Baghdad as authentic as possible in every way, so they brought on Mohammed Alemam, Malek Teffaha, and Maya Loréal - all employees with local and global expertise - to help. Ubisoft News spoke to Alemam and Teffaha to learn more about how they worked with the development team to bring authenticity to Assassin's Creed Mirage.

Assassin's Creed Mirage - Accessibility Spotlight

Assassin's Creed Mirage's setting and emphasis on stealth gameplay may be an homage to the series' roots, but it takes a modern approach to accessibility. The development team implemented a number of features to ensure that as many people would be able to play as possible. Ubisoft News spoke to UX designer Antony Marques to learn more about these features and the team's approach to accessibility throughout the development process.

Ubisoft+ Spotlight - Assassin's Creed Mirage

(Editorial note: This is a series of quick weekly highlights written by Ubisoft News team writers that feature games available with a Ubisoft+ subscription. We hope you'll enjoy reminiscing with us, or perhaps discover something new.)

Brittany Spurlin, Writer/Editor: Take a Leap of Faith into ninth-century Baghdad in the latest addition to the Assassin's Creed series. In Assassin's Creed Mirage, you step into the role of Basim - but not the man you might know from Assassin's Creed Valhalla. Instead, his story starts when he's a young street thief who joins the Hidden Ones and works his way up to become a Master Assassin. As you leap across the rooftops of the densely populated city, you'll eliminate members of the Order of the Ancients, complete contracts, carry out Black Box missions, unlock new Bureaus (aka bases of operations), and so much more. Basim is also plagued by nightmarish visions of a jinni, a mystery you'll unravel as you make your way through the Hidden Ones' work.

As an homage to early Assassin's Creed games, Mirage's gameplay emphasizes stealth and features a refined parkour system. The latter means that Baghdad in the game was designed with parkour in mind, giving Basim a veritable urban playground with paths for a quick escape. Not all of these paths are obvious, so you'll need to observe your surroundings and find a path to get to where you need to go. The former means that you should choose your combat moments carefully. Basim is at his best when throwing a smoke bomb to distract and confuse enemies, taking out enemies with frightening precision using his Assassin's Focus, and using the Hidden Blade on unsuspecting guards (and hiding their bodies after the deed is done). While he can fight if you're discovered, the fun of Mirage truly lies in putting the "hidden" in Hidden Ones.

You can play Assassin's Creed Mirage Deluxe Edition, which includes Prince of Persia-themed items, today with a Ubisoft+ subscription.
