Ubisoft Canada – Fan of the Season: Alexandre Marcotte

At Ubisoft Canada, we’re always looking for the best way to give back to our fans. We decided to start our brand-new initiative: the Canadian Fan of the Season. We want to shine a light on some of you who are totally devoted to our games, all while rewarding you for it.

Today, we’re happy to introduce Alexandre Marcotte, a young man who literally has the Assassin’s Creed franchise in his blood (we're talking about the sweet ink he rocks on his arm, of course). Other than his amazing tattoo, Alexandre shows his love for our games by actively participating in the community, be it by generating discussions or participating in our numerous photo challenges. He also gave us a glimpse of his magnificent Desmond Miles cosplay. He’s also played through all of the Assassin’s Creed games with a 100% completion rate. Absolutely spectacular! Thus, Alexandre has earned himself a Valhalla-themed gift package: a FAM collector’s item, a portrait of Eivor to hang on his wall and a Collector’s Edition of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.

We also had the chance to ask him a couple of questions to get to know him better as a fan.

How long have you been an Assassin’s Creed fan?

Since Assassin’s Creed II, in 2009. The story of Desmond who relives the memories of his ancestor Ezio got me hooked.

How did you fall in love with the franchise? What is your fondest memory of your time with Assassin’s Creed?

Playing the Ezio trilogy. Be it for the story line filled with plot twists or the game’s way of teaching us more about historical events. My fondest memory was the first time I watched the trailer for Assassin’s Creed Revelations at E3. The “old” Ezio that hacks his way through all his enemies with the soundtrack playing in the background. Goosebumps.

Which game from the franchise is your favourite, and why?

They’re all great in their own way, but if I had to choose only one, I’d have to say Odyssey.

First of all, I love Spartan history and Greek mythology. The perk trees gave us choices for different builds as well as a wide variety of gameplay options. And the map was so big with a bunch of islands to explore and breathtaking scenery everywhere you went! Basically, a gigantic world to discover.

Who is your favourite character from the franchise, and why?

Ezio! His evolution throughout the trilogy. Young and headstrong in the beginning, looking to avenge his family and continue his father’s work. He gets wiser as time goes on and he succeeds in bringing the Brotherhood back to its former glory.

If you could create your own game in the franchise, what would it look like?

Probably an Assassin’s Creed set in 1939. During World War II, Hitler (a Templar) heard news that a Jewish family (descendants of assassins) had a relic of Eden in their possession. He kills them all except for one child who was able to hide. The child will then become the leader of the resistance. Later on, he learns that his sister is in a nearby concentration camp, so he goes to save her. At the end, Hitler dies in his bunker caused by suicide, but it would be the work of none other than our assassin friend exacting his vengeance. The gameplay would be a mix of Splinter Cell and Assassin’s Creed.

How do you express your love for Assassin’s Creed every day?

I have my Assassin’s Creed tattoo that follows me all the time. I am now part of the Brotherhood. I couldn’t cut off my finger, so I opted for the tattoo instead. Ha! Ha! Ha!

What have video games taught you?

Lots of things about history thanks to Assassin’s Creed. Other than that, the fact that even if things get hard, you can’t just give up, because you can only succeed by trying. You have a 100% chance of failing if you don’t try.

Why do you think people should play video games?

It’s an excellent way to stimulate your brain. Be it for learning about history and older lifestyles thanks to games like Assassin’s Creed, or by sharpening your reflexes thanks to shooter games. They’re also a great source of entertainment, much like a TV Show that spreads out over the course of several hours, mainly due to the intricate and captivating storylines. Not to bring up a competitor, but Alan Wake, a single-player game with an amazing storyline, is a game I could not put down, because I wanted to know how it would end. Some games will even be a source of fun and bring friends closer together thanks to the whole “couch coop” style. Perfect for nights spent with your best friends!

A big thank you to Alexandre for his years of support. We can’t wait to showcase another one of our biggest fans soon.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will be available November 10 on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PC and Stadia. It will also be available on PS5 on November 12. For news and updates on our games, be sure to follow us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
