Ubisoft+ Spotlight - Watch Dogs 2

(Editorial note: This is a series of quick weekly highlights written by Ubisoft News team writers that feature games available with a Ubisoft+ subscription. We hope you'll enjoy reminiscing with us, or perhaps discover something new.)

Brittany Spurlin, Writer/Editor: Marcus Holloway has been framed for a crime he didn't commit, thanks to the digital information system ctOS 2.0, which has been installed throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. Fortunately for him, the hacktivist group DedSec is recruiting. Now it's time to join a rebellion where hacking is your primary weapon as you take control of electronics across the city, including cell phones, security systems, drones, cars, and more. The Bay Area is an open world for you to explore as Marcus and the rest of DedSec investigate Blume - the corporation behind ctOS - and work to undermine the company at every turn.

Hacking your environment is a big part of what makes Watch Dogs 2 so fun, as it provides many pathways for creativity. You can hack into someone's phone and gather valuable information, make their phone ring to distract them while you sneak by, or even plant incriminating evidence in their data so other gangs or cops will attack them. Hacking cars (or even traffic lights, for a more chaotic option) is a great way to manipulate the world around you for a major distraction or quick getaway. Plus, the game incorporates social media into its leveling system, and the more you do for DedSec, the more followers Marcus will get. Gaining followers will unlock additional missions, as well as get you valuable Research Points to spend on your skill tree. But beware being too bold with your actions - while they'll gain Marcus followers, if the cops get wise to your antics, they'll try and arrest you.

As fun as hacking is, it won't be enough to take down Blume - you'll need some weapons, too. Fortunately, Marcus has a cache of 3D-printed guns to use as needed, explosives that can be remotely detonated with his phone, and the bungee cord with a pool ball fixed to the end of it. For a stealthier, less violent approach, you can also use Marcus' taser to temporarily stun your enemies.

You can play Watch Dogs 2 Gold Edition today with a Ubisoft+ subscription.
