How Assassin's Creed Unity Can Break Down Architectural Boundaries

The Assassin's Creed Unity Architecture Project is the newest entry in the Carte Blanche series and is a study by Luke Pearson and Sandra Youkhana (YouAndPea), who specialize in urbanism and architecture in videogames and teach at the Bartlett School of Architecture in London.

Carte Blanche is an initiative by Ubisoft to show inspiring and emotional aspects of Ubisoft's videogames. Artists from various backgrounds are contacted and asked to reinterpret Ubisoft worlds with their skills and creativity to deliver an original creative asset (ex: video, 3D design, illustration, etc.)

The project examines the recreation of real-world architecture in the game and how it can impact players. Created by Pearson and Youkhana, the project highlights the intersection of videogames and architecture by dissecting the unique way players can experience the built environment and how games can be used to break boundaries to allow people to appreciate architectural design.

Pearson and Youkhana's study culminated in the creation of a physical model - a compact parkour maquette - of traversal through the Parisian rooftops. The pair present the maquette at the Bourse de Commerce - a contemporary museum which used to be a place to negotiate grain trade during the French Revolution - the final destination of their model.
