Ubisoft+ Spotlight - Assassin's Creed II

(Editorial note: This is a series of quick weekly highlights written by Ubisoft News team writers that feature games available with a Ubisoft+ subscription. We hope you'll enjoy reminiscing with us, or perhaps discover something new.)

Brittany Spurlin, Writer/Editor: Get ready for a tale of conspiracy and revenge in Renaissance Italy in Assassin's Creed II. Ezio Auditore da Firenze is a carefree young man, content to race across the rooftops of Florence with his brother Federico and help his friend Leonardo da Vinci track down codex pages - until his father and brothers are wrongfully accused of treason and publicly executed. Ezio and his still-living mother and sister are forced to flee to Monteriggioni, and Ezio's uncle Mario reveals the family's involvement in the Assassin Brotherhood, and a conspiracy by the Templar Order.

The adventure will take you on a journey through the major cities and Italian countryside (and spans decades of Ezio's life), but the gameplay is what makes Assassin's Creed II a true classic. A lot of big features were added or improved upon from the first Assassin's Creed, such as the ability to swim, an in-game economy, and a walled mountain town to use and upgrade as your personal headquarters. Stealth is crucial, and Ezio can avoid detection by blending in with crowds, luring guards from their posts, or bribing citizens to cause a distraction. Of course, there's also parkouring up walls and across rooftops as a handy way of sneaking up on a target, or making a quick escape from an unsuccessful infiltration or assassination. Some combat is inevitable, however, and new inventions from Leonardo da Vinci - including a pair of Hidden Blades that now hide other lethal gadgets - are sure to give you the upper hand and keep your enemies on their toes.

You can play Assassin's Creed II today with a Ubisoft+ subscription.
