Assassin’s Creed Voice Actor Tristan D. Lalla Discusses Representation in Games

Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag introduces Adéwalé, a former enslaved man who joins Edward Kenway on his journey throughout the Caribbean before going on to become a master Assassin in two subsequent games, Assassin's Creed IV: Freedom Cry and Assassin's Creed Rogue. Recently, Adéwalé's English voice actor, Tristan D. Lalla, visited Ubisoft Montreal to speak with BJEDI (Ubisoft Montreal's employee resource group [ERG] for justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion for the Black community) member Michel Kunta.

Lalla spoke about how the role of Adéwalé came down to him and his friend, how he was able to adapt the character to fit his own Trinidadian background, the weight of depicting enslavement in Assassin's Creed IV: Freedom Cry, and just how far representation has come in all forms of media.
