Ubisoft+ Spotlight - Rainbow Six Extraction

[]

Brittany Spurlin, Writer/Editor: For some friends-and-family PvE co-op fun, check out Rainbow Six Extraction. Inspired by the Rainbow Six Siege Outbreak event, Extraction takes place in an alternate reality where the United States has become overrun by the alien Archaean threat. Now, the Rainbow Exogenous Analysis & Containment Team (REACT) has set up containment zones around affected areas, and it's up to you to help the team learn about the new threat and eliminate it.

There are 20 Operators to choose from for each mission; you may recognize them from the ranks of Rainbow Six Siege, but their loadouts and abilities have been adapted to thrive in PvE combat. There are 12 maps spread across four different locations, and each map contains three subzones that escalate in difficulty as you progress through the mission. The objectives change every time you deploy, and it's critical to choose an Operator and loadout that will be most useful for the tasks at hand. Rainbow Six Extraction can be played solo or with up to two teammates, and teamwork is crucial in co-op missions, whether that's backing up a buddy who finds themselves in a sticky situation, healing a downed-but-not-out Operator, or extracting a KO'd teammate.

An interesting aspect of Rainbow Six Extraction's gameplay is the availability and state of Operators after missions. Any injuries you suffer will persist once you extract from the containment zone, meaning your Operator will remain at low health. Completing missions will help heal your injured Operators, so they can regain full health before returning to the containment zone. Additionally, if a downed Operator isn't rescued to the extraction zone, that Operator will remain trapped in the containment zone and your next mission to that area will be a rescue mission. Succeed and your Operator will return to your roster merely injured; fail, and your Operator will return injured and lose a chunk of their XP progression. This consequence raises the stakes, making each mission feel more dangerous and creating a sense of continuity as you and your squad unravel the mysteries of the alien threat.

You can play Rainbow Six Extraction Deluxe Edition, which includes the Buddy Pass, Noxious Touch Pack, Obscura Pack, and React Strike Pack, with a Ubisoft+ subscription.
