The Discovery Tour App: AlUla is out now for iOS and Android devices, and is accessible on any web browser Free to download and play, it’s an educational experience that transports players to AlUla, Saudi Arabia so they can discover its rich history and heritage. The app uses Assassin’s Creed Mirage: Valley of Memory, which features a historical recreation of the AlUla region during the Golden Age of the Abbasid Empire in the ninth century. It’s a richly detailed setting, inviting players to explore wild deserts, lush oases, and historic locations like Hegra and Valley of Stones. The Discovery Tour App: AlUla blends interactive gameplay with educational content, giving valuable insights into architecture, natural landmarks, and daily life.
The app features three sections for players to engage with:
- Access Codex: these curated encyclopaedic entries on the history and heritage of AlUla were created with historians and experts, and feature detailed texts with images of real-life artifacts from partner institutions. Players can view these objects in detail using a zoom functionality, and some of them can also be viewed in 3D using Augmented Reality to have a more close-up look.
- Explore AlUla: A narrative-driven journey that lasts about 90 minutes. Each mission tasks you with exploring historical locations and learning about AlUla. As you acquire knowledge, you’ll eventually be able to decipher an ancient inscription
- Enter Chronology: Explore a timeline of the historical periods that shaped AlUla, from prehistoric times to the Abbasid Caliphate to present day
